Sometimes a brush just isn’t enough to get the texture you’re looking for in a painting…that’s when other tools come into play. This workshop introduces you to working with a palette knife, building up layers to create depth and interest.

…discovering marks a knife can make for different effects and being aware of the interesting patterns the knife leaves behind in its wake

…learning to plan a composition, blocking in colour as a guide, then build a body of paint, developing contrast between soft areas and more textured ones

…understanding the importance of not over-working the knife, keeping colours clean and using enough paint for the desired effect
